Course Development

SIRIUS courses represent a textbook replacement model. They are highly creative, interactive, low-cost courses which can be delivered in all modes--face-to-face, hybrid/blended, and fully online. The courses are designed to improve student retention and performance.

Courses are developed by teams including faculty, instructional designers, multimedia specialists, editors, quality assurance staff, and outside content consultants. All content and pedagogy are developed by the team using the latest technology including SoftChalk’s LessonBuilder. Emphasis is on the development of highly creative, interactive courses making use of the latest research in learning, motivation, and technology. Faculty external to Florida State College at Jacksonville and the SIRUS program review content of courses and the development teams teach the courses during the beta period prior to full release.

Courses are developed for the Blackboard Academic Suite platform. Other versions of the courses are available for use on other systems including Blackboard Campus Edition, Angel, and Moodle. There is no charge to the institution for courses made available in Blackboard Academic Suite; versions in the other learning management systems are provided at SIRIUS cost prices.
