Project DELTA is the result of a three-year special focus competition grant awarded by the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE). The criteria for the project include the improvement of retention and success rates for working adult students or displaced workers in hybrid, face-to-face, and online courses. In addition, Project DELTA will facilitate faculty expertise in applying learning and motivation theory to modified higher education courses for the working adult, provide instructional delivery strategies that include a complete course materials package while focusing on innovation and established research principles in learning and motivation, and achieve these criteria while reducing educational costs to students.

The major components of Project DELTA are courses developed under the SIRIUS Academics program and the International Academy for the Scholarship of Learning and Technology, known as the Consortium.

Currently the Consortium is comprised of 24 institutions of higher education from across the country that agree to utilize SIRIUS courses in their own course offerings. Both participating faculty and their students are asked to provide valuable data to be used to improve current courses and develop new courses.
